The World Military Dominion, commonly referred in shorthand as the Dominion and alternatively as the Zapht Military Empire, was a militarist superstate based in the Asian Continent most well known for launching a twenty-five year long campaign to seize control of the world. To date, its military remains the largest ever fielded in history.

History[]

Leadership[]

The Dominion Government was designed to resemble the military hierarchy structure. Absolute authority was held broadly within the High Council of the Dominion, with Konstantin Ganz Gassel as its chairman.

The day to day operations of the Dominion state were delegated to the Central Presidium, which acted as a cabinet, directly appointed by members of the High Council. Working alongside the Central Presidium, in an advisory capacity, was the Forum, a body consisting of all provincial governors within the Dominion and its occupied territories.

Industry[]

For the majority of the war, the Dominion enjoyed the status of being the most heavily industrialized power in all of world history. In terms of everything from capacity to quality, the Dominion held the record. This was partly as a result of being comprised of, at its founding, the eight most industrialized nations of the world, and partly as a result of Gassel's rapid military industrialization.

Culture[]

Overview[]

Culture in the Dominion was easily catagorized in three major branches: the variants of the "official culture" constructed by Zapht, the various non- and anti-government social movements that fell under the umbrella description of the "Dominion Underground" and, finally, the native, pre-Dominion cultures of the constituent territories. The strength and combination of these differed depending on how close to the frontline the territory was and how much of a hold Zapht had.

In the twenty-five odd years that the Dominion existed, the changes to the culture of territories under its control have been extensive. The consequential rise of counter-culture to the Dominion's official sentiments has also had long lasting impact, for both better and worse.

Official Culture[]

Dominion Underground[]

A major part of the Underground had to do with a series of intelligence networks created and maintained by governments sent into exile by the Dominion. However, there was also a small group of clandestine dissenters within the Dominion military and government structure who would secretly gather and sell important information to Zapht's enemies either for material gain, to force the Dominion to change some action or policy, or out of alienation from the Dominion's activities during the war. The Peacock was one such member.

While Esternarx was officially neutral and was never occupied throughout the period of the Rise and Fall of the Dominion, in reality they produced and distributed anti-Dominion propaganda and sold arms to the resistance, and many individuals within Esternarx provided shelter for refugees from the hostilities.
